Hair Loss

Hair loss can be caused by different diseases, damages and one or the other pathological conditions of the body. Androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness), Alopecia areata (local, total and universalis) , Brock disease – Pseudopelada, Lichen Planopilaris, Frontal Fibrosis Alopecia – FFA, thyroid diseases, infectious diseases, intoxications, avitaminosis, protein deficiency, traumas, burns and surgical intervention of the scalp, radial therapy and chemotherapy, hormonal changes, incorrect hairstyle (tight ponytail, pigtails and braids), trixotillomania, stress – this isn’t a full list of hair loss reasons.

Hair Loss in Men

The leading cause of hair loss in men is male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia. This occurs in men whose hair follicles are sensitive to the hormone dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. Over time, DHT-sensitive hair (usually found on the top and front of the head) becomes weaker and finer and eventually stops growing. Most men have DHT-resistant, healthy hair follicles around the sides and back of their head. This is why so many men have a specific pattern design of the hair on their head.

Hair loss in women

Hair loss in women can be related to genetics, hormones and age. Androgenetic alopecia, also known as female pattern hair loss, is one of the most common causes of hair loss in women. Hair loss in women may be caused by a serious medical condition that needs proper attention and treatment as early as possible. The hair loss patterns in women usually differ from those in men.

Non Surgical treatment of hair loss

From  conservative (non-surgical) treatments we successfully use medical treatment tools, Mesoterapy, Laseroterapy and Plasmolifting – PRP therapy (Platelet Reach Plasma therapy) .

Medical Treatment

Today there are only two medicines – Finasteride and Minoxidil approved by FDA (American Food and Drag Administration) for addressing androgenetic hair loss.

Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar) – is an oral drug which prevents transformation of testosterone in active form of dehydrotestosterone trough 5 – alfa reductase blockage. As a result levels of Dehydrotestosterone in blood are is reduced, while also reducing alteration effect of Dehydrotestosterone on hair follicles.

Minoxidil (Rogaine) – Is topical spray (foam) which comes in different percentile solutions ranging between 2%-15%, while action mechanisms are not yet fully researched.

Systematic use of abovementioned medicines, in a single or combined manner, as a rule gives us ability to stop hair loss progress, prevents hair miniaturization and considerably improves hair condition

Laseroterapy

Use of low level laser therapy -Haircomb Hairmax system activates sells inside of weak and inactive hair follicles. Laser energy improves blood microcirculation around the hair follicles and raises supply of the oxygen and other elements. We successfully use low level laser therapy for hair loss treatment in our practice since 2009.

 Mesotherapy

Mesoterapy represents injection of treatment drugs – vitamins, amino acids and other microelements using mini needles in damaged areas trough dermis (mesoderm). As a result maximal concentration of abovementioned agents is reached in problematic areas and comparably fast and expressed therapeutic effect is reached. Since 2003, we actively use Mesoterapy as a treatment for androgenic alopecia and mainly during alopecia areata.

 Platelet Reach Plasma Therapy

PRP solution combines the advanced hair stimulation potential of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. Under the direction of an experienced physician, this innovative treatment is used to create convenient and powerful solution for hair loss. Plasmolifting represents injection of platelet reach plasma, prepared from the patient’s own blood in damage sites, which causes acceleration of regenerative processes, improvement of microcirculation and cellular metabolisms processes and switching hair follicles from resting (Telogen) stage to active (Anagen) stage. We successfully use PRP therapy for treatment of hair loss problems of different etiology and also for improvement of hair transplantation results. All Talizi clinic hair transplant patients are offered PRP therapy for free.

Surgical Treatment of hair Loss

Hair restoration procedure involves transplanting hair follicles from one area of the head (“donor area”) to the thinning area (the “recipient area”). Healthy full size growing follicles are moved from the donor scalp to thinning areas to increase the density of growing hair. Talizi clinic offers all advanced techniques of hair restoration – FUT – follicular unit transplantation, FUE – follicular unit extraction, Long Hair Transplantation and BHT – body hair transplantation, all methods are performed by the indication with equal professionalism and high skills. You can learn more about FUE and FUT methods,  two basic surgical methods for extracting and transplanting hair follicles below:

FUE Method

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) method is minimally invasive surgical method when individual follicular units are removed directly from donor area without slits and sutures. Main advantage of FUE method is that it is nearly scar less method and never leaves any linear scar on the donor area.

The Surgeon extracts each graft separately with a specialized punch 0.75-1.0 mm in diameter that does not leave visible scaring. Using a tiny one-millimeter in diameter (or less) instrument, the physician will remove individual follicular units from the patient’s scalp. The device makes a tiny circular incision around the follicular unit to isolate the graft. The graft is then extracted directly from the scalp using a tweezers-like instrument, and then prepared for placement by skilled Talizi clinic technicians. Working with high-powered stereo microscopes, these specially trained technicians isolate, prepare and ensure that the follicular grafts remain in optimal condition. Follicular units are arranged into groups depending on the number of hairs contained within each follicle (1-4 hairs are commonly found within each follicle). Implantation of these follicular units represents artistry for Talizi clinic’s natural-looking results.

Use of this method is recommended for II–V Norwood classes. FUE is also highly suited to posttraumatic and post-burn scars as well as the restoration of beard or eyebrows.

In cases where the donor area has insufficient stock for a full strip transplant, the FUE method allows harvesting of additional grafts from different parts of body (chest, feet, back, etc.) and combination of different methods give us possibility to maximize number of donor follicles in case of advance stages of the hair loss.

At our clinic we are able to transplant up to 4000 grafts with FUE method in one, 4-5 hour session. For today we are offering small FUE sessions – up to 1500 grafts without trimming the hairs.

FUT Method

For today, Follicular Unit Transplantation – FUT is the basic method in hair restoration surgery. In case of strip method donor material is taken from the permanent zone (occipital area) in a shape of ellipse. On the following stage, individual follicular units are prepared from the donor strip and then placed in pre-prepared recipient sites.

Follicular unit transplantation gives an effective cosmetic outcome. The main reason is that hairs in case of FUT are transplanted in a form of follicular units exactly like in nature. Strip method gives an opportunity of harvesting and transplanting big amount of grafts, performing mega-sessions (in our clinic, in case of need, till 6000 follicular units during 5-6 hour lasting procedure). Wastage of follicular units (transaction) during strip surgery is minimal and the survivability of transplanted grafts is high (up to 92%).

The only disadvantage of strip method is a linear scar which appears on the back of the head on the same permanent zone from where donor strip is harvested. New method of donor wound closure – based on trichophyitic wound closure technique eliminates chance of formation of noticeable postoperative scars on the back of the head. The area from where the donor strip is harvested , is hardly observable even for the private barber.

BHT Method

In cases of poor donor supply at occipital area, BHT (Body Hair Transplantation method) allows harvesting of additional grafts from different parts of the body (chest, beard, legs, pubic and etc.). Body Hair Transplantation is exactly the same FUE method when individual FU’s are extracted from body. Today we have an opportunity to transplant up to 2000 grafts from beard area, up to 1500 grafts from chest and 1000 grafts from pubic area.

Long Hair Transplantation method

Long hair transplantation is the modernized variety of FUT surgery, in case of which the grafts are transplanted with long hairs, 3 to 8 cm in length and are not trimmed up to 2 mm as in case of ordinary FUT surgeries.

The main advantage of Long Hair Transplantation is visible cosmetic result which patient and doctor get exactly after the end of the procedure. Despite the fact that most of the transplanted long hairs fall down during one month period and then start regrowing after 2-3 month (same way as in case of ordinary hair transplant methods – FUT and FUE).

All methods of hair restoration have wonderful results, have personal advantages and disadvantages, strong sides and weaknesses, but for today impossible to give a definite advantage to either of them. Which private method or the combinations of methods are more appropriate to the individual patient is decided during a live or online consultation between the doctor and the patient. Consultations are free of charge and anonymous.
